Rogers remains Arsenal’s top target but Villa demand record fee

Arsenal have identified Morgan Rogers as their leading target in this summer’s transfer market, but they have been warned that securing the Aston Villa midfielder could come with a record-breaking price tag. Mikel Arteta is prioritising a bid for Rogers as he looks to reinforce a squad that has already tasted title-winning success, aiming to sharpen their challenge once more in the upcoming season. Rogers is currently with the England squad at the World Cup in North America, and his long-term destination is expected to be clarified after the tournament concludes. According to The Athletic, Rogers’s primary ambition is to compete in the Champions League, and Villa’s current path to European football has strengthened their hand in negotiations. Villa are keen to keep hold of Rogers and are prepared to demand a fee that surpasses the £116 million Manchester City paid for Eberechi Efe Anderson from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer. Any figure beyond that threshold would make Rogers the most expensive British footballer in the history of the sport.
Arsenal are also weighing up a potential deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, although the French club’s demands would also translate into a substantial price tag. There is broad admiration for Rogers across Europe, with Arsenal appearing to be the early favorites to land him should the England midfielder decide to move at this stage. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have previously shown interest in Rogers, though neither club has formalised an approach at this point.
As the World Cup unfolds, interest in Rogers continues to grow, with interest from several of Europe’s premier clubs. The conversation surrounding his future remains dynamic, and Arsenal’s pursuit persists as they seek to strengthen their title-winning squad for another competitive campaign. The debate about the most viable pathway to completing a transfer for Rogers continues, after which clubs hosting Champions League aspirations are likely to vie for his signature.
