Ryan Silverfield explains how Byrum Brown derailed Arkansas on Saturday

The Arkansas Razorbacks controlled Saturday’s game against the Auburn Tigers until Byrum Brown took over. Arkansas led Auburn, 10-3, and outgained the Tigers, 176-109 in the first half. Auburn then boatraced the Razorbacks by outgaining them, 254-176, over the final 30 minutes to grab the 26-23 win. Silverfield cited offensive miscues that led to Auburn recording eight tackles for loss and five sacks in the second half, and Arkansas’s inability to slow Brown down. “The quarterback is one of the most experienced in the country, clearly the most experienced in the SEC, and played like it in the second half, and we didn’t find a way to stop him,” Silverfield said of Brown postgame. Silverfield went on to point out the difference in his team’s production from the first half to the second. The Arkansas head coach was pleased with his team’s efforts in the first half, but felt much was left on the table with two punts, an interception, and a missed field goal keeping the Razorbacks from creating separation from Auburn before halftime. “When you look at what we did defensively, proud of that effort, the first half, they were really clean; we were able to wrap up, get off the field on third down and do a lot of great things,” Silverfield said. “Offensively, we did some decent stuff in the first half, obviously, which we could have capitalized a little bit more, so it wasn’t just a 10-3 ball game going into the half.” With the loss to Auburn, Arkansas is 3-6 and 1-5 in SEC play with three games remaining. Its remaining slate features games against three ranked opponents: South Carolina, Texas, and LSU. Taylor Jones is the lead writer for Auburn Wire, part of the USA TODAY Network.
