​Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani didn’t make the cut for MLB.com’s latest Cy Young poll amid his lingering knee injury.The right-hander has been on the list nearly all season due to his incredible start to the year on the mound, but his recent difficulties with a knee injury seem to have knocked him down the pecking order. As a matter of fact, Ohtani didn’t receive a vote from any of the 33 expects polled.Milwaukee Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski sits atop the list with a convincing lead and 30 first-place votes, followed in order by the Philadelphia Phillies’ Cristopher Sánchez, the Atlanta Braves’ Chris Sale, the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler and the Cincinnati Reds’ Chase Burns.What is Shohei Ohtani’s Knee Injury?Ohtani first felt irritation in his knee in June, and missed a game on the mound and the lineup each due to the injury. He received a lubricant injection in his knee following a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks just ahead of the All-Star Game, and missed the Midsummer Classic, opting to rests rather than take a chance on his knee.Following the All-Star break, the Dodgers took Ohtani out of his next scheduled start, which would take place against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, and shut him down from pitching. He has made 14 starts this season, far fewer than the players also vying for the Cy Young, throwing 85.2 innings.Through those 85.2 innings, though, the two-way star has been fantastic. He has a 1.79 ERA this season—the best among a star-studded list of Dodgers starters—and has 95 strikeouts as well.Ohtani has been the Dodgers’ best starter this season, and they’ll hope he can hurry back to the mound and assist them on their journey to become the first team in Dodgers history to three-peat. For now he’ll have to wait, though, and serve exclusively as the designated hitter.His next opportunity to make an impact with a bat comes Tuesday, when the Dodgers face the Phillies at 5:00 p.m. PT.
