Sky Sports: Chelsea Willing To Sell Winger For €50m After Only a Year

Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for Alejandro Garnacho just a year after signing him from Manchester United, with Sky Sports reporting that the club would prefer a permanent sale this summer. The winger joined for £40m last year, yet the latest stance signals Stamford Bridge is already moving toward a decisive outcome. The asking price has been set at 50m euros (£42.6m), a figure that would allow Chelsea to make a modest profit if a buyer meets their terms. Sky Sports notes interest from European clubs, fellow Premier League sides, and teams in Saudi Arabia, while Chelsea are collaborating with the player and his representatives to find a solution.
Garnacho, now 22, desires regular first-team football, something not guaranteed in west London. That point seems central to the situation. He has not yet returned to pre-season training because his future is expected to be resolved within the next fortnight, underscoring that all parties are aiming to move quickly. From Chelsea’s perspective, this is a practical market decision. Garnacho managed eight goals and four assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, numbers that only hint at what Sky Sports described as an underwhelming debut season. He never fully established himself, and in a squad where competition is intense and patience can be limited, that matters.
There was optimism when he signed a long-term contract after being told he could leave Manchester United following their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in 2025. Yet a year later, the sense is that Chelsea are open to cutting the cycle short rather than carrying uncertainty into the new campaign. A loan move does not appear to be the preferred route. Chelsea want clarity, and ideally a full departure. In today’s market, that stance fits a club looking to streamline options, create room, and ensure the new head coach has a squad aligned with his demands.
That broader reset has been underscored by new boss Xabi Alonso, who has wasted little time in outlining the values he expects. Speaking after taking charge as Chelsea head coach, he said: “For me, in football, there are principles that are unnegotiable.” He elaborated on the standards required: “You need to be willing to pay the price to compete at the highest level. You can’t hold back anything. You need to give everything you have for the benefit of the team. The team is always the most important thing.” Those lines carry real weight in Garnacho’s situation, as Chelsea seek to assemble a group that fits a shared idea. Alonso reiterated the point: “We need to create that culture, which is a process.” He added, “I think there is a strong culture already built; there’s an important core of the team.” His concluding message was equally telling: “That culture we are building is essential.”
