Steelers Have ‘Interest’ in 2 Big-Name Wide Receivers at Trade Deadline

Steelers Have ‘Interest’ in 2 Big-Name Wide Receivers at Trade Deadline The Pittsburgh Steelers have every reason to step on the gas before the trade deadline on Nov. 10, and they are apparently ready to do so. The Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns 27-6 on Sunday to take the sole lead in the AFC North with a 6-2 record. With news coming out on Sunday that the Baltimore Ravens could be without Lamar Jackson for the remainder of the season due to a thumb injury, the Steelers have a very good possibility of outlasting the Cincinnati Bengals and Browns for the division crown.Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Steelers have shown an interest in Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. this fall along with the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders. However, Pittsburgh has a “greater interest” in Indianapolis Colts receiver Josh Downs. Thomas, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has caught nine passes for 105 yards and one touchdown this season. He had a big rookie season with Jacksonville, catching 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. He doesn’t appear to fit with head coach Liam Coen’s coaching staff. Thomas earned 48 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns last season.Downs is the leading receiver on the Colts through seven games. He’s caught 26 passes for 307 yards but has no touchdown receptions this season. The 2023 third-round pick’s best season came in 2024, when he recorded 72 receptions for 803 yards and five touchdowns. The Jaguars are in first place in the AFC South with a 5-2 record. They have been adamant in not wanting to trade Thomas, though the receiver’s name has been speculated heavily in the trade market because of his lack of use this season. Jacksonville will have to weigh getting a good return in the trade market versus keeping him on the roster for depth as they get ready for a playoff push. The playoffs aren’t happening for the 2-6 Colts. Indianapolis traded DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers and Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks last week. After firing general manager Chris Ballard, the Colts are heading for an organizational reset. They have every season to trade Downs, and likely running back Jonathan Taylor. The Steelers could soon make an offer the Colts or Jaguars can’t refuse. Pittsburgh can help Aaron Rodgers for now, and get a receiver who can help whoever is under center for the Steelers in 2027
