On Friday, though, the First Take host came to the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s defense, and he had harsh words for the man who taunted Prescott after Thursday night’s loss. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Cowboys 24-16 at AT&T Stadium, handing the previously winless Bucs their first victory of the season. Prescott went 24-of-42 for 316 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, the second coming on Dallas’ final offensive drive. As Prescott walked through the tunnel afterward, a stadium worker called the loss “embarrassing.” Prescott glanced at the man, kept walking, and told a team employee to get him out of there. According to Pro Football Talk, the worker was a driver employed by a third-party contractor.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)Smith praised how Prescott handled it.  “He handled the whole situation in the tunnel with the utmost class. He is class personified. Dak is the ultimate professional,” he said.”He is class personified, Dak is the ultimate professionalist.”@stephenasmith comments on Dak Prescott and his postgame encounter with stadium staff ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/0Y1bvXNPq5— First Take (@FirstTake) October 9, 2026“I’m usually not this guy. But that guy in that tunnel, yelling that at him, you’re lucky if you got a job today,” Smith said. “You shut your damn mouth. You don’t scream at the quarterback, embarrassing him. Not when you’re an employee there. What’s the matter with you?”Smith added that the worker was fortunate Prescott did not single him out, insisting that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones “would get rid of him.” Prescott addressed the moment after the game, saying people are free to speak their minds but should not “coward away from the reaction that you’re going to get.”Smith’s support only went so far. He pushed back on a co-host’s claim that Prescott is better than San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, calling it “Texas bias,” and took aim at Prescott’s postseason resume.“How many coaches is it going to take for Dak Prescott to win playoff games? He’s only got two in 10 years,” Smith said.Smith also left Prescott out of his top tier of quarterbacks, naming Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Purdy as players who are better. For Prescott, the message from one of his loudest critics was mixed. His professionalism earned praise, but the bar for his play remains as high as ever.Related: Cowboys defense has Jerry Jones completely flooredRelated: Stephen A.
