After missing the cut in the team event in New Orleans, Tom Kim sat 118th in FedEx Cup points. Yet his victory at the Genesis Scottish Open marked a resurgent surge, lifting him to 32nd in the standings—a position befitting the sharp form he’s shown of late. That improvement was on full display in the final round at The Renaissance Club, where Kim fired a spotless, six-birdie 64 to seize control of the tournament on a day when no other player in the field matched his bogey-free round. The standout performance came from his tee-to-green game, with Kim employing Titleist’s new GTS3 driver to rank ninth in strokes gained off the tee for the week. His precision into the greens was even more remarkable. Kim used a split set of Titleist irons—T200 for the 2-iron and T100 for the rest of the set, complemented by a Titleist Vokey SM10 46-degree pitching wedge—and missed just 13 greens over 72 holes, tying for second-best in the field for the week. He also ranked second in strokes gained/approach, gaining more than eight shots on the field.
In terms of equipment, Kim relied on a Titleist setup that underscored his strong play. The bag featured a T100 in the irons, a GTS3 driver, and Vokey wedges, with his putting duties handled by a Scotty Cameron TourType Timeless GSS tour prototype. When he did miss the greens, Kim was deft with his wedges, converting opportunities with up-and-downs on 12 of 13 occasions, including four successful sand saves. This efficiency helped him record just three bogeys over the course of the week, two of which came on three-putts, underscoring his steady, high-precision ball-striking and short game.
Kim’s performance at the Travelers Championship in 2024 reflected his growing comfort with Titleist equipment. The ball choice was Titleist Pro V1x, and the club lineup showed the GTS3 in the driver (with a Fujikura Atmos Black 6 X shaft) and 3-wood at 15 degrees, as well as a 5-wood at 18 degrees. The iron set comprised Titleist T200s (2-iron) and Titleist T100s (4-9), with Vokey wedges at 46, 53, and 58 degrees, and the TourType Timeless GSS putter completing the package.
Looking at Kim’s recent results, his resurgence is clear. The Genesis Scottish Open title has coincided with a climb back up the FedEx Cup ladder, and his return to form illustrates why he has been one of the rising stars in recent seasons. His ability to stay bogey-free when it matters most, combined with his precise iron play and exceptional scramble efficiency, positions him well as he continues to challenge at the top levels of competition. As Kim continues to lean on his Titleist gear and refined short game, observers can expect more strong finishes and potential breakthroughs in upcoming events.
