Through double overtime and four red flags, Allgaier wins mad Atlanta O’Reilly race

Justin Allgaier now has six wins in the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts season, and his latest triumph came in a wildly unpredictable fashion. Restarting fifth in double overtime, he navigated the chaos to claim his 34th career victory. It was a JR Motorsports 1-2, with Carson Kvapil edging out the field to secure second place right at the finish line. Parker Retzlaff finished third, William Sawalich fourth, and Anthony Alfredo fifth. Garrett Smithley, Brandon Jones, Kyle Sieg, Rajah Caruth, and Jeremy Clements rounded out the top ten.
At the white flag, Brennan Poole led with Nick Sanchez pressuring him, but contact from Kvapil as they battled for the win sent both spinning, leaving Poole to finish devastated in 17th and Sanchez in 19th. The race set a record with 13 cautions and four red flags, extending well beyond three hours. Early issues struck the field, with Jeb Burton dealing with a clutch problem before the start and exiting without taking the green flag. Shortly after the start, Joey Gase suffered a fluid leak across the track, triggering a lengthy cleanup and keeping the action parked for more than ten laps.
Pre-race drama also surrounded Hill, who pulled onto pit road to address a sticking throttle that the RCR crew appeared to fix. The front of the pack quickly spread out as single-file running took hold in the next stint, capped by Leland Honeyman spinning at the exit of Turn 4 to end the green-flag segment. Mayer, who had started on pole, lost the lead and immediately struggled in traffic, sliding into the wall and suffering a flat tire. The race continued green as he limped his Haas Chevy back to the pits.
Kvapil captured Stage 1 glory while Jones spun in the midfield, collecting Hill and causing slight nose damage to the No. 21. Crews controlled the action after staying out during the stage break, but the restart brought a flurry of movement as Crews, H. Burton, S. Smith, and Caruth all traded the lead before Smith prevailed. Staropoli later spun on the apron, but the race stayed green as the field quickly stretched out. JR Motorsports held a dominant position, building a comfortable gap over the field. By the end of the stage, Smith and Allgaier were alone at the front, with Allgaier ultimately overtaking Smith in a photo finish to win Stage 2.
Austin Hill’s crash further intensified the action, and the race took another turn when No. 21 of Richard Childress Racing encountered trouble. The final stage began with 65 laps remaining, but caution returned soon after as H. Burton’s engine expired, prompting another long cleanup. Creed rose to the lead as the green flag finally waved again, while Hill continued to push aggressively, running three-wide moves to try and claw his way forward. The mishaps continued when Corey Day and Taylor Gray triggered the sixth caution, setting up an extended run to the finish as the field bunched up once more.
