According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Tigers are receiving three prospects, and no Major Leaguers, in exchange for Skubal ahead of the MLB trade deadline. What did Tigers get in return for Tarik Skubal?”The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith, sources tell ESPN,” Passan reports. This three-player prospect package is an interesting combination of players the Tigers are getting in return for Skubal. According to MLB Pipeline, these are the Dodgers’ No. 5, No. 7, and No. 17-ranked prospects in the farm system.Zyhir Hope is a 21-year-old left-handed hitting outfield prospect who has an .899 OPS in 94 games at Double-A this season with 23 home runs, 87 RBIs, and a .293 batting average.River Ryan has already made his MLB debut, going 20.1 innings across four starts in 2024, posting a 1.33 ERA with nine walks and 18 strikeouts. But what makes Ryan such an interesting prospect is that he’s 27 years old. A much older prospect than most, he’s only two years younger than Skubal. But he has significantly more club control and is a whole lot cheaper as well.MORE: Red Sox predicted to trade for Tigers’ Gleyber Torres at deadlineLastly, Brady Smith is a 21-year-old right-handed pitching prospect who has a 4.38 ERA in 21 starts this season at Single-A and High-A this season. He has a 7.71 ERA in 9.1 innings at High-A, but a 3.88 ERA in Single-A this year. He’s a bit further away from the big leagues than Hope and especially Ryan, but the 21-year-old has some upside that the Tigers are now trying to bank on.Skubal, the beloved franchise ace who won two Cy Youngs with Detroit, two ERA titles, and was a two-time all-Star and Triple Crown winner, is now slated to head to the Dodgers in exchange for Ryan, Hope, and Smith ahead of the deadline. While the Tigers didn’t land any of the Dodgers’ top-four ranked prospects by MLB Pipeline, this three-player package isn’t all that bad. Emmet Sheehan was rumored to be in the trade as well, but the MLB-ready pitcher was instead Ryan, who has more control.More MLB news:Mets have no plan to offer contract extension to Freddy Peralta amid trade rumorsPhillies intrigued by Blue Jays trade idea for Jeff Hoffman and Daulton VarshoAstros among teams calling Giants about Logan Webb’s trade availabilityYankees linked to Padres for potential rotation for bullpen swapDi
