Detroit — Jackson Jobe will clear another important check point Saturday.
The Tigers’ right-hander, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, will throw to hitters in Lakeland in his first live bullpen session.

Recovering from Tommy John surgery, Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe talks with teammates in the dugout. Detroit Tigers take on the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
“It’s a great step,” manager AJ Hinch said. “He’s still got some time to go, but that’s encouraging. He’s progressed well since we saw him in Tampa (at the beginning of June).

Jobe had surgery, performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, on June 11, 2025. The Tigers have been hopeful he’d be able to return sometime after the All-Star break. The fact he’s starting to throw to hitters validates that timeline.
“He’s got a long road ahead still,” Hinch said. “But the plan all along was for him to be able to accomplish a lot this year.”
With so many pitchers landing on the injured list this season, Hinch is admittedly gun shy about timelines.
“It’s always important to stay grounded to where you are at,” he said. “We’ve watched him throw some electrifying bullpens which makes you want to hope and look forward to it. He should have time to factor in this year.”
