Tom Curtis: Man United coach set to join rival Premier League club

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Manchester United coach Tom Curtis appears ready to exit for Everton, according to the Manchester Evening News. While transfer activity dominates discussion, there are also substantial changes unfolding within United’s coaching staff that will shape the club ahead of the new season. Darren Fletcher, who took temporary charge of the first team after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, is expected to remain in charge of the Under-18s. Travis Binnion moved up from the Under-21s to join the senior coaching squad, strengthening Michael Carrick’s backroom team alongside new arrivals Jonathan Woodgate and Steve Holland. Following Binnion’s promotion, Curtis stepped in to lead the Under-21s for four matches before Adam Lawrence’s return was secured. Lawrence had originally been slated to stay only until the end of next season, but sources indicate he will remain with United indefinitely, with Binnion established as a permanent part of the senior coaching staff.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Curtis is near a move to Everton. Steven Railston writes that Manchester United academy coach Tom Curtis is expected to join Everton, with Curtis likely to work alongside former United academy head Nick Cox, who joined Everton as technical director last year and has since restructured their academy with several new hires. Railston also notes that former United Under-21 assistant coach Dave Hughes is set to manage the same age group at Everton, and Curtis is understood to be in discussions to depart United to team up with Hughes in Everton’s Under-21 setup.
Railston also reiterates that United intend to formalize Lawrence’s extended stay. Curtis joined United in November 2024 as head of player development for the Under-13 and Under-16 age groups, having previously held various youth roles with the FA. The club’s plans for the academy remain a focal point amid a broader reshuffle of staff as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.
In related context, United’s ongoing decisions regarding the academy and senior coaching arrangements are part of the broader strategy to refresh the club’s development pipeline, with changes often flowing from the youth levels up to the first team.
