Tom Kim’s clubs: Scottish Open provides rare blade putter win

Tom Kim is back in the PGA Tour winners’ circle after a three-year wait, delivering a spectacular final-round 64 on Sunday to clinch the Genesis Scottish Open. This victory marks his fourth career win and elevates him once more into the limelight as one of golf’s brightest young talents at just 24. The win also stands out for its rarity on the PGA Tour, as Kim captured the title using the same Scotty Cameron blade putter that propelled him to victory at the 2022 Wyndham Championship. He becomes only the second player this season to win with a blade putter, joining Matt Fitzpatrick, who has already claimed three wins with the same blade.
Throughout his career, Kim has experimented with a variety of putters, ranging from blades to mallets, but he maintains that his best results come with blade-style designs. This week, he ranked 20th on the greens, accumulating 3.658 strokes gained on the putting surface. Off the tee, Kim was equally impressive, finishing ninth in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee with 3.079. He has long been an early adopter of Titleist’s GTS3 driver line, having switched at the Valero Texas Open. In testing, he observed more consistent spin windows and an increase in ball speed. While Kim prefers a ball that lands favorably to the right, he adjusted the front weight track on his driver this week to nudge his start line ever so slightly left, back toward a neutral trajectory.
In a driver market that’s been exploding in popularity, the GTS line has gone from a two-month wonder to a dominant force, amassing three wins in the last six events. Kim’s setup this week included a GTS3 5-wood and a T200 2-iron, with him choosing to drop his sand wedge. This mirrors a move seen from Tommy Fleetwood, and reflects Kim’s ongoing exploration of a three- to four-wedge setup this season. The three-wedge arrangement allows him to retain two fairway woods and either a hybrid or a utility iron, with the utility iron earning the nod for this week’s links-style configuration.
For more on Kim’s precise setup, here is a snapshot of his equipment selections: Driver: Titleist GTS3 9.0 with a Fujikura Atmos Black 6-X shaft; Titleist GTS3 Custom Driver. Fairway woods include a 3-wood (GTS3 15.0) with a Fujikura Atmos Black 7-X shaft and a 5-wood (GTS3 18.0) with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue Velocore+ 8-X shaft. The utility iron is a Titleist T200 18° with a Fujikura Ventus Black HB 10-X shaft, part of the 2025 T250•U Custom Driving Iron line. The putter, as noted, is the Scotty Cameron blade that has carried Kim to victory on PGA Tour greens.
Kim’s continued success on the course underscores a broader theme in modern golf: the driver landscape is shifting rapidly, with players seeking consistency, speed, and the right spin profiles to maximize distance and accuracy. Kim’s willingness to experiment with weight distribution and setup—adjusting the start line by altering the front weight track—demonstrates how small technical changes can translate into meaningful scoring advantages on the hardest tests.
Looking ahead, Kim’s breakthrough reinforces his status as a credentialed young star in professional golf. At 24, he’s already carved out a legacy of resilience and adaptability, showing that his best golf often comes when options are tuned and the mental game is aligned with the physical tooling he uses. The Genesis Scottish Open win adds another notable chapter to a career that continues to build momentum, suggesting more signature performances may be on the horizon as he leverages the combination of blade precision and modern equipment to keep him at the forefront of the tour.
