Veteran Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber joins teammate Bryce Harper in Home Run Derby

Veteran slugger Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies has been revealed as the latest participant for the Home Run Derby taking place in Philadelphia on Monday night. Schwarber will join his Phillies teammate Bryce Harper in an eight-man field and the two former National League players will aim to dazzle the home crowd at Citizens Bank Park.
Joining the pair is a diverse group of power hitters from around the league. Willson Contreras of the Boston Red Sox, Jac Caglianone of the Kansas City Royals, Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Ben Rice of the New York Yankees are all slated to compete in the event. One participant remains unnamed at this time.
Schwarber, who is 33 years old, enters Friday’s games with 32 home runs, the most in Major League Baseball. The four-time All-Star has long been recognized as one of the game’s premier power hitters, boasting 219 home runs since the 2022 season, a tally that trails only Aaron Judge’s 227 over that period.
This marks Schwarber’s third appearance in the Derby. He came close to advancing to the finals in 2018, reaching the final round at Nationals Park where he ultimately fell to Harper. Schwarber also competed in the 2022 Derby but was eliminated in the first round by Albert Pujols.
As the event approaches, the anticipation is high for Schwarber to showcase his powerful swing once again in front of a devoted Philadelphia fan base. The Derby promises a lineup of formidable sluggers and the chance for commentators to witness a display of upper-echelon power as players vie for baseball’s most celebrated home-run title.
