Von Miller recently revealed that he regrets choosing the Commanders over the Seahawks about a year ago. He inked a deal with Washington on July 16, a season after the Commanders reached the NFC Championship Game. The Seahawks, meanwhile, went on to win the Super Bowl. Now, the veteran edge rusher is once again exploring his options and seeking a new team.
Miller has said he would love to return to the Broncos and has previously indicated an openness to re-signing with the Commanders. However, the Dallas Cowboys—less than 25 miles from his hometown of DeSoto, Texas—have emerged as a new possibility. On Wednesday, Miller posted a photo of himself wearing a No. 24 Cowboys jersey and a “Shhh” emoji, signaling a potential interest in a move to Dallas. Just two days earlier, he told SB Nation’s R.J. Ochoa that “it would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy.”
“I grew up here in Dallas,” Miller explained. “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys. If I played for the Dallas Cowboys this year, I [would] only have to drive 20 minutes to work. This would be the first time that my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game. My mom has been to every single game that I’ve ever played in, and she’ll be able to drive to all the home games, and you know I got so many family members here. My kids are here. My family is here; [my] girlfriend is here. Everybody’s here. It’d just be easy to work it out, so you never really know.”
“We talked about that magnetic field in College Station [when I played at Texas A&M]. Maybe the magnetic field here in Dallas will get me there. So I would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it’d be amazing.”
Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion, having earned MVP honors with the Broncos and also winning a title with the Rams. The Cowboys, however, have not advanced to an NFC Championship Game since their last Super Bowl triumph in the 1995 season. Across 14 NFL seasons with the Broncos, Rams, Bills and Commanders, Miller has amassed 138.5 sacks. He recorded nine sacks last season, appearing in 37 percent of defensive snaps—the most he’s logged since 2021. His free-agency status adds another layer of intrigue as teams weigh how a veteran pass rusher like Miller could fit into their schemes and payrolls for the coming season.
