White Sox select Cole Prosek in the second round of the 2026 MLB draft (No. 41 overall)

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

The White Sox have set their sights on infield versatility, selecting Magnolia Heights (Miss.) H.S. second baseman Cole Prosek with the 41st pick, marking the third in a line of middle-infield additions in this draft. Prosek profiles as a bat-first infielder who recently began catching, adding an intriguing twist to his profile. If he avoids being burdened with mastering a new position from scratch, his potent bat could help him progress quickly through the White Sox system. Yet the real upside here is clear: finding a plus defender behind the plate who also brings a big bat would be a game-changing combination.
MLB had Prosek ranked as the No. 27 prospect in the draft, so the White Sox have essentially added a first-round talent a dozen picks later, a value proposition that stands out. The MLB.com broadcast team expressed strong approval of this selection, awarding the White Sox high marks for their draft class thus far.
Given the White Sox’ history of allowing non-traditional catchers to gain experience at the position (remember Adrian Gil at High-A Kannapolis), Prosek may not reach full-season play in 2026. Instead, he could spend the year refining his long-term defensive role in Arizona later this summer, continuing to develop the dual-threat upside of a catcher with a potent bat.
The 2026 White Sox draft narrative will unfold with ongoing coverage, and this pick remains a key element of that storyline. As the organization charts Prosek’s path, it will be interesting to see how his defensive development and hitting profile converge, and how quickly he can translate his offensive abilities into sustained contributions at higher levels. This draft chapter is part of the broader 2026 White Sox draft story, with ongoing content exploring every pick, evaluation, and projection.
