Following their victory over Brazil on Sunday, Norway was expected to enjoy a long layoff before its quarterfinal against England at the 2026 World Cup. However, the downtime has proved anything but relaxing for Team Norway. A few days after the Brazil win, Norway coach Stale Solbakken revealed that several players were battling illnesses. The squad has faced ongoing health issues throughout the tournament, with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen already missing matches due to sickness.
In addition to the illnesses, Norway also changed hotels just days before facing England. The team logged only one night at The Dalmar in Fort Lauderdale, reportedly due to excessive noise and nearby construction that drew complaints from players. Captain Martin Odegaard offered few specifics about the relocation, simply noting that “things could have been better.” He added, “There were some things that could have been better, and we fixed them. Just to optimize and prepare ourselves as best as possible for an important match.”
With those concerns now largely behind them, Norway can shift its focus to delivering peak performance when they take on England on Saturday in what promises to be one of the most anticipated quarterfinals. England enters as the favorite, yet Erling Haaland has helped elevate Norway into a credible World Cup threat, suggesting the winner of this clash could have a genuine shot at lifting the trophy.
Given the stakes, it is crucial for Norway to arrive at the stadium healthy and well-rested. A strong, fully fit performance not only improves Norway’s own chances of advancing, but it also promises a high-caliber contest for fans worldwide. Fans anticipate watching two of the tournament’s best teams at full strength as they contest a spot in the semis, with the potential to shape the remainder of the World Cup. For Norway, maintaining health, rest, and focus will be essential to capitalize on the moment and keep their title hopes alive.
