The Milwaukee Brewers lead the series, 2-0, after two one-run wins. Game 1 was low-scoring, with the Brewers winning when Trevor Megill stranded the tying run on third. In Game 2, the Brewers rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win. For the second straight game, the Brewers hung on when Aaron Ashby stranded the tying run on third. The series now shifts to Tampa Bay for Game 3, with the Rays hoping to get back in it in front of their home fans. On this off day, let’s look at how we got here and what to watch for in Tampa Bay.World Series Off Day: The Series So FarGames 1 and 2Bullpens Take Center StageHeading into the World Series, both teams used their bullpens differently. The Brewers haven’t hesitated to use their bullpen, and that has continued in the Fall Classic. Jacob Misiorowski went five innings in Game 1, the longest he’s gone this postseason, before Pat Murphy turned it over to his bullpen. In Game 2, Logan Henderson only lasted three innings, giving up four runs. The Brewers’ bullpen pitched a shutout the rest of the way, as they did in their pennant-clinching game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rays have let their starters work deep into games, keeping their bullpen fresh. He only pitched 3.2 innings. Before Game 2, he had pitched at least six innings in each postseason start.Through the first two games, the Brewers have put the Rays in unfamiliar territory. Bullpen games are part of Murphy’s strategy, but not for Rays manager Kevin Cash. Furthermore, Murphy only used one reliever (Ashby) in both games, while Cash used two (Kevin Kelly and Steven Matz). The Rays may have entered the series with a rested bullpen, but the Brewers head to Tropicana Field with fresher arms.BaserunningBoth teams have implemented the running game in this World Series. Over two games, the Rays have six stolen-base attempts (four successful), while the Brewers have also attempted six steals, all successful. No one should be surprised to see this many steal attempts. During the regular season, the Rays tied for second in steals, while the Brewers ranked fifth. However, the Brewers ranked near the bottom of the league in catching base stealers, while the Rays finished in the top 15.Both teams have used stolen bases to create scoring opportunities. The Rays stole two bases off Megil in their attempted ninth-inning comeback in Game 1. The Brewers created traffic in Game 2 as part of their comeb
