There’s absolutely no telling what the New York Yankees have up their sleeves heading into the second half of the season after Major League Baseball’s All-Star break. The Yankees have to feel pretty good about what they’ve done in the first half, given some of their injuries, though I’d still say this season has been somewhat disappointing. Frankly, the Yankees should be a bit better than they’ve played so far, and there’s no excuse for them not to go out and make the necessary moves to land a few players who can come in and make a major impact.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAmong the options that the Yankees will be looking to pursue, Hunter Goodman and Mason Miller are reportedly at the top of that list. Miller, who has ridiculous stuff, would be a perfect closer for the Yankees to go after. Goodman is also a very good player in his own right and fills a major need for the Yankees.Speaking to reporters at the All-Star Game, both players addressed the rumors and didn’t sound like they didn’t want to come to New York.“I enjoy playing for the Rockies. I think we’re doing the right things going forward. I think we’re working on the right things, and the things that we’ve changed are going well, and I think we’ve seen in the way we played this year. It’s been a lot better baseball. And other than that, I don’t really have anything. I try not to think about it. It’s out of my control,” Goodman said, per NJ.com.“The rumors are what they are,” Miller said on All-Star workout day. “The Yankees are a good team, and they’re obviously a team that is going to add most years, so I think it’s just a compliment in a way that good teams are interested in good players.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs both guys touched on here, some of this stuff is out of their control. Even if they enjoy playing with the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies, if the organization wants to move on from both, there really isn’t much they can do. The Yankees will have to be hopeful that one of those guys ends up in New York, as I don’t expect both, given the likely prices.
