We’re exploring fantasy football content this offseason with the aim of welcoming all kinds of football fans to Bucs Wire. While offensive players typically dominate fantasy football conversations, IDP leagues continue to gain traction, offering another engaging avenue for fans to enjoy the sport. Our plan is to begin with rookie profiles and examine how they fit into the teams that drafted them. The first spotlight is on New York Giants cornerback Colton Hood.
Colton Hood enters the NFL after stints at Auburn, Colorado, and Tennessee, where he finally earned a full-time starting role in 2025. His final college season stands out as his best, delivering 50 tackles, one interception, five pass breakups, and a 79.2 overall defensive grade from PFF. Hood’s ability to play press man, his physical style, and his competitive edge suggest he has the potential to develop into a starting outside corner in the long run.
From a Projections perspective, Hood’s profile shows promise. He combines a sturdy frame with physicality at the line of scrimmage and is comfortable in press coverage. His recovery speed is ample enough to stay competitive when receivers push vertical routes, which bodes well for future growth in a starting role.
The main obstacle, however, is opportunity. The Giants currently list Hood behind Greg Newsome II at right cornerback, which likely positions him as a reserve defensive back and special-teams contributor to begin his rookie season unless he overtakes Newsome in camp. Still, rookie cornerbacks can be valuable in IDP formats if they earn snaps or are pressed into action by injuries, creating chances for tackles and pass breakups.
Hood shouldn’t be drafted in most redraft IDP leagues. His current depth-chart position makes his weekly role too uncertain, particularly in formats that don’t require cornerbacks. That said, the long-term outlook is more intriguing. Hood possesses the size, physicality, and press-man traits that could help him evolve into a starting outside corner if the Giants exercise patience with his development.
For 2026, Hood remains a deep watch-list candidate. He has the talent to monitor, but his immediate fantasy value hinges almost entirely on whether he can climb the depth chart and secure a more consistent role.
