NY Giants News: Insider Suggests Malik Nabers Injury Could Sideline Him into 2026 Season

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4 of last season, and while there was optimism he would be back on the field well before the 2026 NFL season began, the latest indications suggest that may no longer be the case. During an appearance on The John Keim Report, Giants reporter Jordan Raanan floated the idea that Nabers might not return to action until October, a timeline that would have substantial implications for the team’s plans.
Nabers’ knee surgery turned out to be more involved than initially anticipated. The former first-round pick required a follow-up procedure to remove scar tissue that had limited knee movement and caused recurring stiffness. That offseason intervention pushed back the original return timeline, as the team navigated the added recovery period.
Back in May, Giants head coach John Harbaugh expressed optimism that Nabers would at least begin practicing during training camp, but ESPN later reported that the complexity of the injury left the team without a precise target date for a return. Besides a cautious optimism, updates from New York on Nabers’ progress have been limited, contributing to growing uncertainty about his availability for the start of the season.
Raanan stressed that his updated timeline was speculative rather than an official report. If this new window proves accurate, Nabers would begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he would miss the first four games of the campaign.
The Giants’ offense in 2026 was expected to lean toward a run-first approach, especially with Cam Skattebo returning and Tyrone Tracy Jr. anticipated to play a significant role in the backfield and receiving corps. Should Nabers miss any portion of the regular season, more opportunities would arise for Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III. Veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Odell Beckham Jr. would also have a stronger case to make the final roster if Nabers isn’t available early on, as the team looks to balance its passing and rushing attacks.
Notably, the Giants’ bye week in 2026 falls in Week 8, in November. Even in the most conservative scenarios, Nabers is expected to be cleared well before that week, suggesting he would rejoin the lineup and serve as a featured target for the passing game for a substantial portion of the season once he returns to action. Until then, the dynamic of New York’s receivers and the overall offense could shift, with Mooney, Austin, Smith-Schuster, and Beckham all positioned to contribute more prominently depending on Nabers’ availability and the continued development of the offense in his absence.
