​Oftentimes when coaches describe how they want to run their offense, it revolves around efficiency. Teams want to control time of possession, primarily using the run game, and that is what makes a good offense.Controlling the clock is obviously important, but Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has a different view on how that should be done.  Offensive coordinator Press Taylor explained that Johnson’s offensive philosophy prioritizes explosiveness over efficiency in both the run game and the pass game.“I don’t think Ben has ever mentioned the word efficiency.  We talk about explosive.  We are trying to attack a defense,” Taylor said.  “I think there’s a perception of a lot of people, we’re gonna run the ball, we’re gonna stay efficient and control the clock.  We are looking to attack the defense.  We are looking to attack fronts, to expose space, to create run lanes, to create explosives and we don’t look at the run game as a way to stay on track.  We look at the run game as a way to attack defenses and really be explosive and continue to just put our foot on the gas the entire game.”This mentality has historically been reflected in Johnson’s offenses. Back in Detroit, when he was their offensive coordinator, the Lions were known for having an explosive offense headlined by wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs.Last season, Johnson’s offense proved to be very explosive in the run game. Running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both excelled in this system as both backs had multiple 100-yard games in 2025.  The pass game also had its share of explosive plays such as tight end Colston Loveland’s game-winning touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9 and wide receiver Luther Burden III’s 65-yard touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.Going into the second year in Johnson’s offense, the Bears have the potential to be even more explosive in the pass game and run game this season.Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and InstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Press Taylor explains Bears HC Ben Johnson’s offensive philosophy
