The Boston Celtics appear to be interested in adding a veteran big man this offseason, as evidenced by their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Although Boston did not succeed in acquiring the star forward after Milwaukee traded him to Miami, the Celtics may still be looking for a big man to bolster their roster.
There has been a lot of speculation that the Celtics might consider trading Jaylen Brown to acquire a big man. However, basketball analyst Jeff Goodman believes that Sam Hauser could be the player Boston moves to secure a center.
“To me, he’s (Hauser) the one you probably try to move with a trade exception for somebody who maybe wants to offload a big salary,” Goodman said Thursday on CLNS Celtics.
Hauser has been with the Celtics for five seasons and has developed a solid role in the frontcourt. Yet one concern is that Hauser is only 6-foot-7. When the Celtics play Hauser alongside Jayson Tatum at the small-forward and power-forward positions, they tend to be undersized. This is why the team needs to consider adding a larger player to strengthen their lineup.
The Celtics could receive a nice return for Hauser, as he is only 28 and has three years left on his contract. A team with an excess of centers but lacking frontcourt players who can shoot might consider trading for Hauser.
