​When looking at the Montreal Canadiens’ current roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another right-shot defenseman. If they hope to address this need before the start of the season, they will need to through the trade market. This is because there are not too many notable UFA defensemen still on the market. One trade candidate who could make a lot of sense for the Canadiens to make a push for is Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. The Habs have been connected to the 6-foot-4 blueliner in the past, and he would have the potential to be a strong pickup for their right side if acquired. If the Canadiens acquired Ristolainen from the Flyers, he could be a nice fit on their second pairing. He would also offer them a clear option for their penalty kill because of his solid defensive play and shutdown ability. The Canadiens could also use another defenseman with size who plays with an edge. Because of this, it would be understandable if they tried to acquire Ristolainen from the Flyers before the season starts. In 44 games last season for the Flyers, Ristolainen posted one goal, 14 points, 48 hits, 63 blocks, and a plus-10 rating. He also recorded one goal and five points in 10 playoff games this past spring for Philadelphia.
