ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – One of the Twin Tiers’ top swimmers continues to excel at the college level.Army junior swimmer, Angie McKane, was named The Patriot League Swimmer of The Week after a monster week for the Black Knights. The Corning grad won six individual events in a tri-meet vs. Marist and UConn. She swept the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard butterfly, winning each event three times.According to Army Athletics, McKane put together her best complete effort of the season.She recorded her fastest 50-yard butterfly time of the meet in her final race, finishing with a time of 23.85, while her final 50-yard backstroke victory came in 25.73. McKane also led off Army’s winning 5×100-yard medley relay, which finished in 4:48.31, and helped the Black Knights place second in the 6×100-yard freestyle relay with a time of 5:15.75. Her performance helped Army secure first place in the women’s team standings with 1,003 points, ahead of UConn (779) and Marist (545).McKane won five state titles at Corning High School and eight total medals including Federation events for the Hawks.Next up for Army is the Rutgers Invitational next weekend in New Jersey.
