​The Notre Dame football program got some great news on the recruiting trail on Monday.According to On3/Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Notre Dame landed a commitment from five-star edge recruit Darieon Prescott. Prescott chose the Fighting Irish over the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies. He’s also the No. 18 overall recruit in the country. He’s the Fighting Irish’s third recruit in their 2028 class and is the highest-rated recruit in the class. Can the Irish get back to the College Football Playoff?The Fighting Irish had a strong 2025 season, finishing with a 10-2 record, but still missed out on the College Football Playoff. They were the first team out and missed on the final at-large berth, which went to the Miami Hurricanes. The Hurricanes proved they belonged in the CFP and made it to the National Championship Game before losing to the Indiana Hoosiers. Despite that, the Irish will undoubtedly be super motivated for the 2026 season. This will be Marcus Freeman’s fifth full season as the head coach, and he has a 43-12 overall record. The Irish will start the 2026 season with a fun matchup against the Wisconsin Badgers on Sept. 6 before playing teams like the Miami Hurricanes, SMU Mustangs, and BYU Cougars later in the season.
