Man Utd return from the International break with a poor draw vs SpursManchester United underwhelmed yet again this season with a poor performance in a 1-1 draw with Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur. An early mountain of Spurs pressure saw United struggle to get a hold of the ball as they consistently made mistake after mistake, with Spurs somehow failing to take the early advantage. With Carlos Baleba making a second-half debut, Carrick’s men seemed to have found a spark as Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring, digging out his effort into the far bottom corner, beating Antonin Kinsky to his left-hand side. The night looked to be getting better for United as Rodrigo Bentancur lost composure and head-butted Luke Shaw, earning himself a red card after only 12 minutes on the pitch. What should have been a simple game to see out turned into a nightmare as United conceded to a cross from a 10-man side once again, this time with Dominic Solanke getting on the end of a Sandro Tonali cross in the 92nd minute. However, on this occasion, it is hard for fans to see the issue as anything other than poor intensity.Man Utd Too Reliant On Bruno Fernandes After 1-1 Draw vs Tottenham HotspurMichael Carrick’s side stagnated at Old Trafford as Spurs stifled their creative engine. With chance creation stalling, United must find new attacking solutions beyond their talismanic captain. What Needs To Change In The Squad? The summer saw United spend heavily in the midfield department, and there are definite positives from the recruits. Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba all arrived in the summer looking to add legs to United’s core and help keep control of games. However, Santos has remained severely underused since his arrival. With Carrick often opting for a combination of Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo as the deep midfielders, this has seen United get overrun on multiple occasions. Both Baleba and Santos seem more defensively suited to the system, and both are younger and more athletic than Tielemans.Going forward, United need to confirm their strongest midfield pairing behind Bruno Fernandes.
