Slot values for four Texas A&M MLB Draft selections revealed

Texas A&M’s 2026 season ended in disappointment, as USC knocked them out in the College Station Regional. The Aggies’ pitching weaknesses were a major storyline from the year, and head coach Michael Earley made a decisive move after the rotation finished with a 5.24 team ERA. The numbers included junior left-hander Shane Sdao posting a 7.03 ERA and allowing 16 home runs, a combination that underscored the need for improvement on the mound.
On the offensive side, Texas A&M leaned on its top hitters to drive the lineup. Caden Sorrell, Gavin Grahovac, and Maryland transfer Chris Hacopian formed the backbone of the attack and entered the offseason as legitimate MLB Draft prospects. Hacopian, despite battling injuries that sidelined him for several games early in the year, drew strong draft hype and was projected to be a high first-round pick. Ultimately, his talents were rewarded when the Washington Nationals selected him 11th overall on draft day.
The following round brought more excitement for Aggie fans. Caden Sorrell followed with the 62nd overall pick to the Chicago Cubs, capping an impressive season at the plate. Grahovac, who returned to DFS after missing the entire 2025 season, delivered a standout year in 2026, posting a .339/.429/.722 line with 22 home runs. That total placed him just behind Sorrell’s 23 homers, and it underscored Grahovac’s power and on-base prowess as he anchored the middle of the order.
Shane Sdao’s 2026 campaign was rocky, but scouts remained optimistic about his ceiling. The right coaching staff could help him harness his outstanding arm strength and improve his control, even as his high ERA and command issues persisted. Sdao went 120th overall in the fourth round to the New York Mets, and with the right development track, he should sign and begin his journey in the minor leagues.
Financial projections reflected the strong value of the top three batters: Hacopian, Sorrell, and Grahovac were all anticipated to command significant slot money. Sdao, while valued lower, still stood to benefit from the draft system. Specific estimates showed Hacopian at about $6.13 million, Sorrell around $1.49 million, Grahovac near $1.02 million, and Sdao in the mid-$600,000 range. While it was widely expected that all four would depart for professional baseball, the possibility of Sdao returning to campus was largely regarded as unlikely.
Looking ahead to 2027, Texas A&M’s pitching staff appeared to be in significantly better shape. After adding seven pitchers through the transfer portal, the Aggies bolstered their depth and potential, especially if Weston Moss decides to return. The combination of the transfer additions with remaining returning arms suggested a more competitive rotation and greater stability on the mound for the coming season.
