The 2026 MLB Draft kicked off on July 11, and the Georgia Bulldogs baseball program enjoyed several players receiving selections. Among them was pitcher Joey Volchko, who the Chicago White Sox selected with the 77th overall pick. Volchko’s selection marked him as the second Bulldog drafted that year, following Daniel Jackson, who went to the Colorado Rockies with the 37th overall pick. A third Bulldog, Rylan Lujo, joined the pros when the Los Angeles Angels took him at the 109th slot.
Volchko delivered a standout season, earning third-team All-American honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and tallying an impressive 119 strikeouts. His performance also earned him a spot on the College World Series All-Tournament Team, underscoring his impact on Georgia’s postseason run.
Georgia baseball enjoyed a remarkable season overall, finishing with a 53-14 record and a 23-7 mark in the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs made a deep run in the postseason but were eliminated from the College World Series in the semifinals after a loss to Oklahoma. Despite the semifinal exit, Georgia’s regular season and conference-level success highlighted a program on the rise and showcased the depth of talent across the roster.
