Milan owner Gerry Cardinale introduced new head coach Ruben Amorim at a press conference, stating that he “couldn’t be more thrilled” to work with the former Manchester United and Sporting CP boss. He explained that the Rossoneri had to compress six months’ worth of meetings into just a few weeks to be prepared for the 2026-27 season. Milan has had a busy off-season, parting company with their entire senior management team the day after the 2025-26 campaign closed. Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and CEO Giorgio Furlani were all dismissed in a single club statement.
Since then, Milan confirmed Amorim’s appointment as head coach, with a revamped senior management structure to back him, including Massimo Calvelli, Hendrik Almstadt, and Bobby Gardiner. Amorim arrived at Milan’s training ground on Tuesday alongside Cardinale, and the pair met the media for the introductory press conference the following day.
“When I set everything in motion that you’ve seen over the last month or so,” Cardinale began, “the day after our season ended, it was about re-evaluating our football organisation. For the first time in my ownership, I stepped in as a much more hands-on owner, and the first decision was to thoroughly review the coaching position. When I look at football organisations, the relationship between coach, ownership, and management is absolutely critical. In normal circumstances, you go for head of football, sporting director, and then a coach. We packed six months’ worth of meetings into a month. This whole process was about restoring AC Milan to its footballing heritage. We’re here to win. We’re not here to avoid losing; we’re here to win. That means we want a footballing model that supports that objective—a style marked by high pressing, high possession, and attacking football. It will be an exciting, enjoyable style for fans to watch and will produce high-scoring games.”
