Former Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel pleaded guilty to a class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge stemming from a July 7, 2025 arrest in Lake Ozark, Missouri, accepting a plea bargain instead of appearing in court. The state has recommended a $1,000 fine and combined court costs of $346.50, according to court documents filed Monday, June 29. A Camden County Circuit Court probable cause statement said a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, who saw Pinkel in a Big O Tires parking lot on Bagnell Dam Boulevard around 11:30 p.m., observed a blown tire on his SUV and that the vehicle had been driven on the rim for a significant distance. The trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol on Pinkel, noted slurred speech and swaying, and administered field sobriety tests after asking Pinkel to explain the tire incident. Pinkel allegedly could not recite the alphabet from E to R or count backward from 78 to 62, and showed a lack of smooth pursuit when following the officer’s finger with his eyes. A preliminary breath test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.128%, above Missouri’s 0.08% limit, leading to his arrest and subsequent release from Camden County jail. Pinkel, who coached Missouri from 2001 to 2015 and is a College Football Hall of Fame inductee (2022), previously pled guilty to a DWI in Boone County following a November 16, 2011 arrest.
